How did you guys get started?

After watching countless kids carrying their possessions in ripped trash bags, Scot and Jacq formed STATE - a company that promises to not only deliver much needed supplies, but to also provide youth with the tools to reach their fullest potential and better their communities. And to always have their backs.

Who are Scot + Jacq?

STATE began as a partnership between husband and wife team, Scot and Jacq Tatelman. They created STATE as a for-profit company with a nonprofit pedigree.

These Brooklyn-based social entrepreneurs have eyes trained for style but their hearts have always been with kids growing up in America's most underfunded neighborhoods.
In 2009, they founded Country Roads Foundation - a nonprofit organization that has served thousands of New York City kids.

About Our Bags

What is your typical bag size?

Being a backpack brand with a style for everyone, our bag sizes range. Depending what you’re looking for check out the capacity tab on our product pages for more info.

Do your bags have laptop and/or iPad sleeves?

Our bags like the Bedford, Lorimer, Kent, Lenox and Nevins have laptop sleeves. Our other styles do not such as Smith and Kane.

How can I personalize/customize my bag?

You can personalize your bag by choosing PERSONALIZE ME under the product description.

Is there warranty on your products?

Yes, we have a one year warranty on all of our products

Are your bags made in the US?

At the moment our bags are currently made in China under fair and ethical working conditions

Are your bags eco-friendly?

Currently our bags pass all toxicity levels however they are not necessarily eco-friendly.

Which of your bags are vegan?

Are any of your bags water resistant?

Most of our bags are water resistant but not water proof. We would not recommend staying outside in the rain for a while.

What’s the difference between the Douglass and Berkeley?

Taking care of your STATE Bag

Can I wash my bag?

Some of our bags are machine washable, others we recommend spot cleaning. To be safe. Either check the tag on your bag or send us an email at customerservice@statebags.com

If I have a patch on my bag, can I wash my bag?

We recommend spot cleaning your bags with patches. But you can wash some bags which are embroidered

If I cannot wash my bag, can I dry clean it?

Go for it!

What are my shipping options?

We offer ground, 2nd day air and express shipping as well as international

Do you offer free shipping?

We offer free shipping on orders of $100 or more

Where do you ship?

Everywhere! If you have an issue during check out please let us know.

I see a Kentucky address on my shipment notification, why?

If you’re an international customer and see that your bag was delivered to Kentucky, don’t worry! This is just our freight forwarding address. Once your bag passes customs it will be on its way to you!

What other fees will I incur on international shipments?

International shipping fees can vary depending on your packages destination

How long do international shipments take?

International shipments can take anywhere from 5-14 days to reach their destination.

Returns

What is your return policy?

We want you to be completely happy with your order. If for any reason you are not satisfied, STATE Bags gladly accepts returns for a refund. Items must be returned within 30 days of purchase (does not include shipping costs). Returned merchandise should include the vendor packaging and tags and be in the same condition as when it was received. Please be sure to return items in the clear bags in which they arrived.

Your refund will be credited to the original purchaser's credit card and will include sales taxes if your order has been sent to a destination within the US (does not include shipping costs). Please note that refunds may take up to 10 business days for your bank to complete, depending on its processing time. This can vary greatly between card issuers, and unfortunately we are unable to influence this.

Sale merchandise is redeemable for store credit only.

If there is a problem with my bag, can I exchange it?

We believe in our bags and we want you to as well! We have a one year warranty on all bags sold through our site. If you experience any damage outside of normal wear and tear, please let us know by sending a photo. We would be more than happy to send you a replacement. If you did not purchase your bag through our site but at a store that carries STATE, we will replace your bag if it was purchased within the last 90 days.
